New DarkFall pricing announced

There are a few ways you can interpret this special offer from Aventurine for new DarkFall customers:

  • The box cost of the game has just been lowered to $15 if you purchase a three month subscription at regular price,

Or

  • You can buy a three month subscription for $3.33 per month when you buy the game at regular price.

Or

  • The box cost has been reduced to $30, and you also get three months of game time for just $10 a month.

Whichever way you do decide to interpret it, DarkFall is now cheaper than a single item from the Allods cash shop, and rather than buying a temporary fix to a dev-imposed barrier, you are buying a ticket to the best PvP MMO out. Then again, Allods has a really nice WoW-look UI and great polish (for a F2P game), so at least you can get right into the soulless grind to the cash shop quickly. It does have that going for it…

(DarkFall-related post disclaimer/reminder. If you click the image link near the top-right of this page and buy a DarkFall account, I get paid 20% of the client cost. If you believe this taints my views and reporting on DarkFall, your opinion is wrong.)

They timed it well. Baring an unforeseen hatred I get for the game in the next few days, this was the tipping point for me. I’ll likely be extending my Darkfall stay from 7 days to 3 months.

Sorry to hear that, guess your plan to go in and hate it did not work out huh?

Haha, glad you are enjoying it up to now though, and I think the three month deal is a good one. Three months is a good length of time to decide if what DF really offers is appealing to someone. On a modest playing schedule, after three months you should have a decent character (not close to done or a powerhouse, but decent at least) and have seen most aspects of DarkFall. After that, it just comes down to whether what it offers long term is right for someones playstyle or not.

Plus by that point any UI oddities and new user experience problems will no longer factor in.

I’m hoping the offer will be the tipping point for my buddy who started the Trial with me.

His comment was more or less that it was good enough to pay a subscription but not good enough for a subscription AND a $50 box sale.

Similar situation for my two friends. I think one is sold, the other is on the bubble (more due to time than anything else, but a lower price certainly helps justify less play time for some)

This offer looks to be a tipping point for me when it comes to buying this game after the trial or not.

My point of contention, however, is what I’ll do in the game. You wouldn’t happen to know any guilds that are recruiting newbies and training them in PVP, would you?

Because basically, I’m eager to sate my bloodlust on more than goblins.

NEW clan (which exists on both servers) is always a good initial start. Join that, learn the ropes from them, and by the end of your time with the clan you should know where you want to go next. I can’t speak for EU, but on the NA server NEW is huge and very active, so you will meet a ton of people.

Thanks. I forgot about NEW. Hahaha… By the way, you may want to add another point to the possible ways to look at the new Darkfall Offer: The Extended Trial Phase, which should allow you to see everything there is to see (within reason) in Darkfall. :)

I hope this prospective influx of new players will stop the moaning and groaning relating to the perceived skill-gap between newbies and veteran players. Even if the chances of winning against a seasoned player are slim, there now should be enough players to provide for pvp at every skill-level.

  4. few notes:

    – Plenty of clans recruit new players, my own clan TCU on eu-1 is mostly focussed around new players.

    – the difference between newbie and veteran character is big. but thats not the main problem you encounter. it’s newbie + lack of gear Vs. Vet + Top-end gear.

i’m a year old vet and my gear consists out of r60 weapons, Q4 enchants etc.. the top-end pile that makes me about 3x more effective.
my clan members wile not all in that high end great are provided (within reason) a good gear bag that makes them capable of standing up to veterans in at least 2v1 numbers.

We have tested this and it truly is not a single factor that contributes to the whine, but the combination of Experience as a player, Character stat/skill and gear..all 3 things a newer player most likely does not have.

It’s win win for Aventurine for sure, and really boils down to paying for an overpriced box and getting 1 month “free” *cough*. But combined with the free trial it’s a great marketing move.

  6. Trippin Ninja's avatar Trippin Ninja says:

As someone who bought the game 2 days before they released the trial I can’t help but feel boned on all of this. Not only did I miss an opportunity to see the game for only a dollar but now I missed out on a huge discount on the first few months of gametime.

Despite those facts Im still happy to see them doing what they can to entice some more players.

Excellent. I should have the new PC built soon, just in time to take advantage of a good deal. $60 for the box and 3 months sounds pretty damn good to me.
