For all of you too cheap to spend a buck before, the Darkfall trial is now free.
Timing of this is a bit odd I must say, given that there is a patch coming later this week (hopefully) and an expansion in June (hopefully), but hey, free.

Man, I had to pay a dollar for my trial. What a slap in the face to all of us who had to lay out that dollar for this offer to come along now. Unbelievable.
I wonder why they even bothered? It’s not like $1 was a big deal. This just opens up the door to people who want to attempt to hack/bot the game without worrying about getting “banned”.
My guess, and we will shortly see how this plays out, is that they are confident in not only their detection, but in the way they control multiple trials. And as silly as it seems, I’m also guessing they saw a noticeable amount of resistance to the $1 price point vs going free.
I don’t buy it. I have to wonder how serious someone is about wanting to “trial” a game if they aren’t willing to spend even $1 to ensure they are not a fraudulent user.
I don’t either. But then, if you told me someone would pay $25 just to change the graphic skin on their in-game mount, I’d call you crazy too.
Even the act of paying itself is a hurdle big enough to scare lots of people away.
Although Darkfall has a more dedicated community than other mmos, it needs a constant flow of newbies.
So i see this as a good thing for the game, as long as they can hold all the scum at bay that a free trial brings with itself.
How is the population on NA-1 sync? Im thinking about transferring, even if my ping goes to 200.
I never have trouble finding PvP, and our cities get raided rather regularly. Back when I was around the human starting area there was a decent amount of players around as well. Trade seems fairly active. How any of that compares to EU I don’t know, but I’ve never found the pop on NA lacking.

I was trying to say, last news was MO to launch 9 June 2010…
I consider it bad timing because anyone who has played MO quickly returned to DF, so in it’s current state MO is not much competition. Eventually? Maybe, but not right now.
AV should be more concerned with bringing in people to show off the June expansion, and even possibly this next patch (assuming it’s more than just the HP re-balance)
Well that’s exactly why this trial is -good- timing. I don’t think MO is going to poach players that are -already- playing DF.
The trial is intended to lure in -new- players. I’m sure there’s alot of people that had held out waiting for MO [as buggy as it may be] before deciding between DF vs. MO . So if you give them a free DF trial, they can now make an “educated” decision”.
So if MO is going to be as bad as people say it is, then having a DF trial to “compare” how bad it really is, sure sounds like good timing to me :)
