The F2P/RMT model is nothing new to the MMO genre, but today’s email from WordPress about premium blog themes is the first time I’ve seen such a direct sale of blog-ish content. League of Legned’s style skin sales, now available for your blog. Seems odd, but I guess it was only a matter of time.
Up next, free burger at McDonalds; ketchup is 50% off this week! Just $3 to get a seat, $5 buys you a clean one.
I saw that this morning too, and even commented on their announcement, though my comment has been held in moderation for a long, long time.
I pointed out that I would happily buy a premium theme that suited my needs, but that the current preview option shows you so little of what the theme can do that I feel I am not given sufficient information on which to base a buying decision involving $45-68. That is the price of a new game, so I need a decent demo before I invest.
This was apparently not an enthusiastic enough response. Or else I’ve been flagged as a trouble-maker for some of my past comments on their announcement blog.
Apparently I’m not cool enough to have gotten that email. That or they knew I’d never spend money on that shit.
Speaking of 50% off ketchup, did you know that you have to actually PAY for condiments in fast food joints in Holland? Seriously, when I was there over the Christmas holidays I about choked when my boyfriend plopped down a McDonald’s receipt and I saw that we had to pay 40 cents for a mayonnaise packet.
I see you have bought into the WordPress.com cash shop. Syncaine.com eh? What else did you get?
No ads + custom CSS editor.
I have been tempted to get the CSS editor option, though with me that would be like handing a moron (see Tobold) a Rubick’s Cube; I’d never be done.
I think the only think I use it for is to turn the sidebars gray instead of blue… $20 well spent!
BTW, in case Tobold reads this, I was not calling Tobold a moron, merely referring to the fact that he was dragging out the antiquated definitions of moron, idiot, and the like.
