How awesome is Dragon Age 2!?

So atrocious.

Remember how during Dragon Age: Origins, sometimes the combat would get a little silly and you felt a bit embarrassed for the game? DA2 is those silly moments, turned up to 11, and put on repeat 24/7. Mortal Kombat looks more realistic/serious, and that games TRYING to be obnoxious.

The demo locks your equipment options. Why? Not that it would have saved the game, but honestly, why would you prevent someone front equipping different items in the demo, especially because during the demo tons of stuff drops?  Oh yes, because you are intentionally trying to make the absolute worst product possible. This is a solid step.

Remember how during Dragon Age: Origins, the story at times was pretty good? Well I can’t confirm/deny if that’s the chase with DA2, but I can say the opening cinematic and the first five minutes are a total joke, and once again the game goes out of it’s way to suck, this time in terms of dialog choice = result. Who could ever imagine someone would ship a game where selecting “lets go north” would result in “ramble ramble ramble lets go south ramble ramble ramble TONS OF BLOOD!!!!” I know that’s high on my wishlist of ‘improvements I’d like to see in a sequel’.

One last bonus, the graphics in DA2 are nothing special, yet on my new super computer, the game runs at 2-4 FPS (no joke) on high settings/DX11. Good thing you shipped a game that literally NO ONE will be able to run maxed out, huge plus. At medium settings I’m pretty sure it looks worse than DA:O, and even then the performance is meh at best. The main character also looks like an asshole, and not in that ‘cool badass’’ asshole way, but more in that ‘this guy is a tool’ way. I’m convinced that’s intentional.

I have now spent more time writing about DA2 than playing it, as I uninstalled the demo about 5 minutes into it. That the game managed to pack in so much suck into the first 5 minutes is remarkable.

EG Rating: Highly Recommended, 9/10.

I’ve been playing the game for a couple days now. It’s not like the demo.

Turn off the excessive blood and gore, turn the settings all up to max but ambient occlusion and you’ll get top notch graphics at good framerates. There’s a bug with the AO in the game.

My 4ghz quadcore w/ 1gb 460gtx pulls 60fps(vsybc capped) without even beginning to stress my card, and the game looks *beautiful*

Gameplay is very similar to DA:O, though Rogues are fixed to not suck atrociously in AI control.

If your not a pussy and play on hard or nightmare, the game is HARD and requires careful planning and strategy. In the first real ogre fight (not the intro silly OP one) I wiped 9 times before struggling through with one character left alive, and I’m an old hand at this.

So, yeah. The DA2 demo is NOT AT ALL representitive of the actual gameplay.

No joke; the Ogre fight was brutal on Hard difficulty. I shudder to think what that looks like on Nightmare.

I know Syn is going for a parody of EG here, but I’m really enjoying DA2.

The map re-use in the game is pretty blatant and a turn-off though.

I think i’ll wait for The Witcher 2 or Deux Ex 3 . Rift will keep my busy in the meantime.

You forgot that the writing, character design, plot development, pacing and generally everything involving the story after the first few hours is TRASH.

The game is easy on Hard, stupid on Normal, and one-handed dog tier on Easy.

I’m glad that I cancelled my preorder, though they gave it to me anyway.

There’s a similar one by one of the other writers that is identifiable by about seven phrases that she repeats OVER AND OVER. Or at least it’s a very convincing imitation.

Either way, that branch of BioWare is forever tainted.

    I had fun. :)

But also feel a little ripped off, much like I did with Mass Effect 2. The game being so short and limited by console specs. Bleh. I blame EA.

    2-4fps? You’re doing something wrong.

Yall are gay dragon age 2 was awesome, though the story was weird anders was in kirkwall in the second year of the game when he should of been in amaranthine during awakening

overall the story at least at a good climatic ending. and solved the templar-mage dispute so next game you want be aggervated by hearing about how templars raped mages in tower circle. And maybe with all the mages on the loose the next game will have some full grown war especially when chantry is getting all freaked out about it. But still I miss my hero from origins.

    • Unknown's avatar Kyir says:

The only thing climactic was how boring that boss fight was.

      Wait that makes no sense.

Either way, maybe next time they’ll pour those millions of funding into making fights that don’t consist of “spawn adds, kill adds, DPS boss, spawn more adds.”

That shit might fly on easy, but it shouldn’t on Hard.

Lol…feel free to comment about the demo. It was garbage. Not representative of the actual game itself which is a blast and quite challenging at times on either hard or nightmare modes. The graphics are actually quite nice, unlike the demo. Combat is exhilarating and tense. I quite like the companion side quests and interaction between characters. So far I’m in Act 2 and by no means am I bored with it.
Why Bioware released a crappy demo is beyond me; after playing the demo I had no intention of buying the game, but after reading a few reviews I made the purchase and haven’t been let down. The downside is the repetitious environments, but honestly it’s not that bad considering the battles on hard/nightmare are challenging. DX11 is poorly implemented even after the high def. pack [separate download], which is a real shame considering I went out and bought another graphics card a month ago to try out crossfire. It’s not the be all and end all, BUT Bioware did flaunt support for DX11 prior to game release, they should have tested it better…pricks.
There’s pros/cons to many games out there, I’m enjoying this purchase. To each their own.

Dude, i would rate DA:O a 7… and i would rate DA:2 a 9. Origins was a little too slow paced for me, and after beating DA:2 with an archer and a warrior, as well as half way with a mage, i found it to be way more exhilirating during combat, especially when you are fighting 10+ enemies at once. DA:2 pwns face.

DA2 is a dumbed down piece of garbage. If people feel this is a positive step forwards for rpgs, i truly feel sorry for them.

    • oh please give it up your just mad cause you kept losing over an over again you piece of garbage this game is for adults nott bed wetters so go in your cave in stay there like a good little piece of junk da2 was the best way better than da1 major improvements great story

Dragon Age 2 is not as good as Dragon Age: Origins overall in my opinion, but it is a great RPG in it’s own right. It is not nearly as epic as Origins nor is the story as good as it was in Origins. But the characters are much better in this game, and your character feels a lot more personal than in Origins. The writing on the side quests is brilliant as well, many of the side quests are incredibly fun. The companion quests might be the best part of the game in a lot of ways, some of the best and most inventive scenarios play out during the companion quests. The combat is much better in DA 2 than Origins, much better on console than Origins was. The graphics are better, but still nothing amazing, but some of the areas look really cool! Sundermount in DA 2 is very cool looking. The bottom line is if you are a big RPG fan, and love games like Origins, Oblivion, Fallout, Mass Effect, etc., then you will enjoy Dragon Age 2. As an RPG fanatic who plays every good RPG that comes out on consoles and also played a lot of World of Warcraft I can tell you that Dragon Age 2 was one of the most fun RPGs I ever played! Fun from start to finish and believe me you will have a blast using your character and his three different companions to take out swarms of undead and darkspawn.
