CoC: Pre-war stats vs Mexico 2.0

(Stats and writeup by Delpez)

Mexico 2.0 Pre-War

My first thought was that the matchmaker had lost its marbles. After working the numbers I know this to be true! Just by looking at TH and experience levels, this is the biggest mismatch I’ve ever calculated. However, there are some positives. Firstly, these guys are not nearly as strong on offence as Fire Guardians (our previous loss). During that war all their TH9’s, and more than half their TH8’s had access to level 4 hogs, and used them extensively to score 3-stars against our tougher bases. For this war most of their TH8 attacks will be dragons (even some TH9’s), which we are better equipped to deal with. Secondly, we learn a lot from these tough wars as opposed to smashing derpy clans. Tough wars force us to be more exact in our attacks, and to execute and refine our general strategy.

To illustrate my point about clan strength, here’s a breakdown of the clans based on TH and experience level. I’ve included Fire Guardians as a reference.

Next is the base strength and minimum number of stars we should aim for. I think this system is working well for TH8 and below, helping us to focus on the correct bases, and usually we exceed the minimum stars. We do struggle to achieve our minimum stars at the top level, mostly because we don’t have enough powerful attacks yet.

TH9&10 minimum stars are based on player experience, and is not very accurate. As I’ve said before, we don’t have enough high level attacks yet to secure all those stars; currently we get around 60% of the minimum TH9&10 stars. However, we do outperform our minimum stars at TH8, so we should get close to 110 stars. I don’t think that would be enough (guessing our opponents will score 120-130 stars if they’re organised).

So what can we do to try and challenge for the win? Firstly, we need to allow our TH7’s and low TH8’s to contribute. My suggestion would be to leave #42-50 for guys with level 2 dragons (first attack only). Obviously if we’re still missing stars on those bases go for it with your second attack. Secondly, it might be a good idea for high TH8’s to hit their TH9’s, especially the ones with zero stars against them. Against Fire Guardians we left four TH9 bases with zero stars. If you’re TH8 with level 4 hogs or decent GoWiPe, and if all the TH8 minimum stars have been achieved, getting one star against a TH9 is exactly the same as getting a 3-star against a previously 2-starrred TH8 base. And against the TH9 base you have the potential for more stars. Finally, would it help if our TH10’s hit down? Our opponents have very advanced TH10 bases, so maybe we can sacrifice 15 stars at the top get more stars against their TH9’s?

Great analysis as always Delpez. Go 4* HOGS! Mine will be trained in another 7 days.

What do you think the minimum training levels are for the GOWIPE to be effective from TH8 against a TH9?

Another thought for our TH9/TH10s to consider now or in the future would be some variations on HOLOWIWI or Loonion for certain bases. I haven’t done the research in a while – maybe those are not viable any longer, but food for thought to bring home some more stars.

    • SynCaine says:

I’ve training up loons now, hogs are maxed, but hogs/loons is the next attack comp I’m working towards. Don’t have minions researched up yet, and I think I’m going to lvl golem after loons (witch is already at max, and higher golems should make my gowipi more viable vs other TH9s).

TH8 GoWiPe is tough since you can’t train witches or get max pekka, and at TH8 it’s hard to lvl up golems. I think even with lvl3 hogs, that might be a better option vs most bases. Only base I would say GoWiPi is certainly better is one where you can easily drill into the TH for a snipe two star.

      • sleepysam says:

You think level 3* hogs are a better option for attacking a TH9, as opposed to 3* drakes, correct? (can’t be worse i guess) I can give it a whirl if all the TH8s are cleared or 2 starred and there are some wide open TH9s for attack no. 2.

        • SynCaine says:

Possibly, yea. My thinking is if the hogs clear enough of the defenses on a side, you might be able to get to the TH with a cleanup force and achieve 2 stars. I don’t think lvl3 hogs have a chance of clearing all of the defense though, so no chance for a 3 star, though I don’t think even a perfect gowipi atk at TH8 can 3-star a decent TH9, and with gowipi only getting one-star could be more probable (again depending on the base)

  2. Delpez says:

What are the chances of a GoWiPe for TH8 vs TH8? I’ve not seem it done very often, and usually not very well. I’m comfortable that 4* hogs can 3-star a compact TH8 base, but I’m thinking about using GoWiPe against spread out TH8 bases, or those with multiple double bomb spots.

    • SynCaine says:

It’s very hard, especially with lvl 1 golems. The big problem is even when pekkas do what you want, the overall dps of the comp makes it hard to fully kill everything, unless you do a great job of protecting the wizards/witches to max them.

I think when my main was TH8 and I was using gowipi, only like 1 in 4 atks I got 3 stars.

  3. NatoGhost says:

Great read, thanks for putting all this together!

I’m “higher” TH8 but really only have drags 3 as a viable attack option right now. Hogs only lvl 2 and Pekka 1 and no Golems yet. Upgrading dark barracks now towards golem but as far as research goes I think I will go hogs before Pekka 2.

  4. Gormn says:

Oh boy… Will get started on my attacks (as a TH7) asap.
