CoC: Fire Guardians Pre-War

(Stats and writeup by Delpez)

This is the first time we’re having a repeat war, but the previous time did not go that well (they were a lot stronger than us and we lost 102-119). I’ll show some of the numbers collected last time to illustrate how the two clans progressed since 18 December 2014. Let’s first have a look at the Town Hall level distribution (keep in mind that previously it was a 45 player war):

Purely based on TH level, we are a lot stronger than during the previous war. While they still outnumber us slightly at TH9&10, we actually have more TH8’s than them this time around. Our combined TH level is also higher. However, the big difference previously was that their bases were also more advanced than ours. This can be approximated by the average player experience by Town Hall:

We’ve caught up some, but both their top and TH8 bases are still more advanced than ours. The strength of their TH8 bases is also apparent when looking at the minimum number of stars we should achieve based on air defence strength (TH9&10 works a bit differently):

TH9&10 minimum stars are based on player experience, and is not that accurate. It’s better to view those top bases as a whole, in which case we should score 27 stars from their top 14 bases. That might be a tough ask, but our TH9 bases are also getting better all the time.

As far as the TH8’s are concerned, it’s clear that most of their bases are very advanced, with only one classified as easy. It’s certainly possible to get 3-stars of those toughest bases, but it’s important to make sure that we get our minimum stars first before trying to score that third star against a tough base. If we can achieve these minimum stars with some attacks left, we can use that as a launch pad to go for the win. The minimum stars alone might not be enough to win this war (remember that last time they scored 119 in a 45 player war), but 118 stars are not insignificant either. Also, our defences are at a higher level this time, so it’s impossible to say what a competitive score might be.

Delpez, so it seems like you do all this analysis with manual data entry? There doesn’t seem to be an API for CoC…

Like the good old days of cooking up strategies on paper and/or spreadsheets. Working with data manually helps to really understand what you are looking at, compared to letting app A work for app B.
Or maybe I’m just old and dated. :/

  3. Delpez says:

100% correct – all data entries are manual, but the model that determines the stars are not. At the moment it’s rule based, but I’m busy with a linear regression to predict how we should perform against TH9&10 bases. Data collection doesn’t take too much time – I would say 30 minutes before and the same after a war.
