Missed oppertunity in Hellfire Peninsula?

Sorry for the slow updates recently, no major blogging topics have popped into my head lately.

One quick observation I had last night. Hellfire Peninsula has an alliance and horde town, basically across from each other separated by NPC enemies. The zone also has three capture objectives which are a daily PvP quest, supposedly to encourage a bit of PvP even on non-PvP servers. I think Blizzard missed an opportunity to really create something a bit more interesting by making a daily quest to kill the NPC leader of the other faction’s town. This would require a group effort by players to overcome the NPC guards, and any faction opposition, and would be generally harder than the daily we have now. Quest NPC’s could be marked as non-agro, so as not to disrupt those who want to just quest, but everything else would be fair game, and the daily itself would be rewarding enough to actually get players to form groups and tackle it. Good idea, or am I missing a major flaw?

Sounds like AV, only with more lag, and an unfortunate side effect inflicted upon people actually levelling in that area.

The problem with that is that the leader of each town IS a quest NPC.

Mostly though, I think people still wouldn’t bother unless the rewards were truly fantastic, and if the rewards were that good then the town leaders/guards/npcs would be getting killed constantly.

Blizzard definately dropped the ball on making any sort of interesting zone pvp objectives but it’s too l ate for them to fix it now short of a massive revamp of the zone. Blizzard has demonstrated that, frankly, they don’t care to revisit content in any meaningful way.

I actually really like this idea, simple yet effective. I never took part in the point-capture PVP in Outland, mostly because the Alliance on my server didn’t seem interested in recapturing our Horde towers.

I would have loved some impromptu PVP like that. Place a single new NPC in each town who gives quests to kill his opposite NPC or players from the opposite faction while within your own walls (for equally useful rewards) and you would have seen regular 5 man groups trying to “storm each other’s castles”.

I doubt it would have seen AV numbers and placing the quest mob off to the side in each town, while protecting other quest NPCs with high level elites could have funnelled the PVP combat in the right direction without griefing PVE players.

I agree on Blizzard dropping the ball on this one Graktar =(

Good idea. This is already implemented in the Ettenmoors in Lotro and it works great, for the monster side who gets a decent reward for doing it and not for the player side who only gets tokens. However now that they added the Delving the players do have a reason to take the keeps at least, if not go all the way to the home bases. As long as Blizzard balanced the rewards and made them worth it you could have some major fun going on. Loktar and zug zug!

3-4x as many Alliance players than Horde players on most servers = no fun for Horde players with zone PvP.

Ummm… ever thought that an organised group of few can ruin the day of several disorganised? It would mean forced grouping, more like…
