MMO blog not about MMOs?

Current blogging dilemma: Basically all of my gaming time has been non-MMO since returning from my honeymoon, nothing really interesting is happening in MMO land that I care to really write about (other than the upcoming Darkfall expansion), and something tells me the people who read this blog won’t find a post breaking down the Risk 2110 boardgame (which is awesome btw) or how I play Amumu and Katarina in League of Legends all that interesting. Let me know if I’m off on the last two.

I keep saying it, but damnit one of these nights it is going to happen and I will start getting myself back into Darkfall, but it might honestly take the expansion to trigger the return. A little time away never hurts though, and the break should make getting back into things that much better. Hopefully we have seen the last delay in regards to the expansion, as I know I’m not the only one banking on it as a catalyst to either return or to increase activity.

The thing I’m most excited about in terms of gaming right now is Civilization 5. I’d be more than happy to drop $50 on a Blizzard-does-SC2 upgrade to Civ 4, but from reading some previews I’m really looking forward to the new things they’ve added, and overall it sounds like the game has really expanded beyond its military focus. I’m sure Inquisition will have more than a few epic multiplayer games going that will have us collectively staying up far longer than we intended. How Civ 5 will be balanced into all other gaming is always a question of course, as Civ 4 more or less put everything else on hold when it was released.

Oh and a special thank you to my iPhone, which cleared my Shining Force save. I’m psyched to replay those four hours again…

Not really related to today’s post, but I’m curious what Champions you’re having the most fun with in League of Legends.

I looked at your match history, but that’s never very revealing of anything.

My ‘best’ champion by far is Amumu. With a decent team his ult is murder, and he himself can dish it out in terms of AoE damage as well. My playstyle (aggressive) fits his strengths well, and I’m not half-bad at hitting people with bandage toss.

I like playing Katarina, as once she gets rolling she is a beast and you can rack up kills en-mass. She is also fun because you are always very active thanks to her not using mana and her abilities being on short cooldowns.

Warwick is fun every now and then, but he is best when you jungle and jungling is boring after a game or two, plus to me he plays like a non-AoE Katarina.

Only other champion I’ve put a decent amount of time in with is Kayle, who so far has been fun but I’ve not done great with her. I plan to keep at it with her though.

      Hope that helps.

I have champions that I play already, I was just curious how you were enjoying yours.

Amumu is always credit to the team, glad to see you’re not playing Shaco.

You know it’s an epic game of Civ when your still doing “one more turn” at 3 AM only to find out one of the players *cough* Jojo *cough* has passed out cold in his chair at the keyboard.

What I’m most looking forward to is the vent rage, as it will no doubt be turn-based in pace yet still at peak levels of anger.

I would be more than happy to read about your Champions’ builds and play styles. I have just started to play LoL and enjoy it immensely. It is always good to see other peoples take on certain builds and maybe learn something new.

Your post prompted an interesting question:

Why is it so much easier for a blogger to pick up a following writing any old stuff about mmorprgs whereas you need to write like William Shakespeare to get a following if you write about single player games?

Welcome back from honeymoon by the way.

There aren’t enough blogs on LoL (actually, I was able to find only one good blog, Fearless Gamer), and therefore any LoL-related blog posts are always welcomed :)

During my MMO break a couple of years ago, I started referring to Kill Ten Rats as an “online gaming blog,” and sometimes I break that into just “online” or “gaming” if the subject of the day is Luigi’s Mansion or something. We sometimes dwell in the MMO penumbra.

You should free trial or something Star Trek Online imo! I’ve not really read anything anywhere about it and I don’t feel like doing it myself, so, why not you amirite?

oh and btw, need to put an “a” in the first paragraph before the word post and also, I’m assuming it is Risk 2011, not 2110, though, that could be some crazy futuristic board game (futuristic board games wtf?)

    • SynCaine's avatar SynCaine says:

Risk 2210 is the name, it has mechs and such, plus a bunch of different rules.

Can you still turtle in Australia and hold the one Asian country to make that player hate you?

        • SynCaine's avatar SynCaine says:

Yes and no. There is now more than one entry point into Australia, and with the game only lasting 5 turns, and having both water cities and the moon as new areas, holding Australia is no longer the I-Win holding.
