Somehow I think you have Tobold’s shitty joke in mind here.

  2. Ulvheart says:

Awww, did someone poke your favourite game with the ‘moderately amusing’ stick?

    • SynCaine says:

You have pretty low standards for amusement.

And the post goes out to everyone with a blog. April 1st somehow empowers people to believe they are funny.

I like to think my blog is moderately amusing a moderate amount of the time. It amuses me moderately, anyway, which is what it exists for.

        Don’t we all?

I take it back. This wins April 1st by a landslide:

Thanks to PM for the tip.

I liked the way she took a quote from my pajamahadeen article out of context. Unless she finds your blogging physically harmful, that is.

    • Dex says:

The crap, I flipped through a few of her back entries, why the hell does she blame everything on Sexism? Is she some sort of Feminist extremist, out to de-ball MMOs or something? We already know she’s a bit nuts, what, with being an editor over at Massively and all…

      • SynCaine says:

It’s how attention-whoring works. You say you don’t want people focusing on the fact that you are a female gamer on the internet, while including the fact that you are a female gamer on the internet whenever you write something.

        • Anonymous says:

Wow. Just wow. I have been following this whole debacle with faint interest, not being an EVE player and only mildly interested in ever trying it. But spinks is right. Nothing in the blog you link has anything to do with the writer being a “female gamer on the internet”. You had to dig deep to come one with one single reference to that fact in a very lengthy, and extremely articulate, article and even there you left out the point of the statement. Here, I will finish it for you:

“I understand that criticism and trolling and even sexism are part of the territory of being in games journalism, being a woman in this hobby, and being an opinionated and argumentative person. I expect turds hurled at me from the dung heaps of the internet.

What I don’t expect are veiled threats that suggest EVE’s thugs will attack us IRL if we don’t comport with their demands, like this one: ‘I’m sure we shall see more if the gaming press decides they want to camp Eve Online. Eve players tend to be … creative. Maybe someone should warn those reporters to stay away.’ And they say we take the game too seriously.”

You have written post after post about this event, sneering at “White Knights” and mocking anyone who is not willing to support “The Mittani” for his ignorant rantings. And you accuse HER of attention-whoring?

But hey – thanks for the link to Skycandy. I just substituted it for the link to your blog. And don’t bother – I already know. Good riddance and all that.

        • Zirce says:

          @anon

Why did she even need to bring sexism into the article at all? It literally had nothing to do with her article.

“I’m a girl on the internet, so I clearly I deserve some sympathy.”

      • spinks says:

There wasn’t anything in the linked article about that. You really did have to reach for it, didn’t you? *golf clap*

          Good point.

        • Xyloxan says:

@spinks: you didn’t read the linked article, did you? *golf clap*

        • spinks says:

Urgh, well if she will hide it in the middle of a TLDR screed ,…. But still, she wrote a whole article about other stuff and THAT was what you decided to pick on, really?

    Well, it is April 1st.

That means Syncaine must be diverting from what he actually intends to write in an effort to provide his audience with a chuckle at his humorous new direction. Thus, we can infer that he loves jokes really, but this new “tough Syncaine” persona is only for our amusement on this particular day and will not in any way impact his usual blog posting rhetoric.

Also: I actually read an article in The Economist about people creating custom pets with biological printers before I realised I was getting trolled. That’s how you do April Fools, Internet. Not by making something so obvious it’s woefully unfunny, but by making me actually believe something before remembering what day it is.

  5. Jester says:

Despite my nickname, I limited myself to one extremely subtle joke which only one person has caught. ;-)

  6. Bernard says:

    Sounds like someone got trolled.

  7. Hong WeiLoh says:

I am funny, except when I’m not.

Internet spaceships is srs bidness fo sho…. internet spaceships blogging though, man, dangerous territory there. ;-)

  8. T'ango says:

    Syn –

Make a blog post about the crap that happens in your comments. Seriously – it’s better than Days of our Lives. Somebody just replaced your blog link with somebody else’s… queue the dramatic music.

What I find funny is that people can’t be satisfied with just replacing your link and not coming back, they have to type up an extremely long comment and TELL you that they aren’t coming back. JUST LEAVE – IT WILL BE OKAY – YOU DON’T NEED TO JUSTIFY THINGS FOR US. THE WORLD WILL GO ON.

Also – People should stop getting offended when they are bitching about being offended and somebody comments on it. It’s kind of one of those self-fulfilling things… I forget what those sciency people call it.

    Much luv,
    T
