EVE: It’s only 22b bro, no big deal

For anyone arguing against ganking in high-sec, I give you this.

Darwin, really. 22B ISK of stuff in a Badger! Really?

  2. Werit's avatar Werit says:

Looks like someone was moving their base of operations. I do wonder if this involved some inside information though. Seems quite lucky to randomly gank a badger in hi-sec and find billions.

      They cargo-scanned him.

This is why people camp gates. I won’t make 22b running lvl4s all year, and it took just one idiot flying (likely on auto-pilot) through a gate to pay for ~55 months of EVE (PLEX value)

I dunno, if I wanted to hunt down something like this, I would just fit a passive targeter and a cargo scanner somewhere on a route to a hub, and just scan every industrial that comes through. The person got lucky to find it sure, but it wouldn’t surprise me if there are tons of people out there hunting for this type of thing. The ehp on it is so low that even as a new player I could probably find a way to gank it.

There are definitely tons of people hunting scores like this. As mentioned, one hit will pay for many months of game time!

The gank was at uedama, just outside Jita. Those space lanes are full of people scanning for targets like this – I should know I do a lot of afk autopilot trading and have had several ships suicide ganked.

Often scanning ships are at one gate and gank ships are closer in or simply someone will scan something and put out a general alert.

It’s completely normal for lucrative cargos in weak ships to get looted like this.

Not only a Badger, a completely unfit, untanked Badger. That’s EVE Darwinism at work right there.

  4. Makes me feel much better about losing a Hulk and some fittings in a Badger that one time. That was all of ~100 million ISK. I’ve made more than that on big level 4 missions with bounties where I have looted and salvaged every last wreck.

There are some key choke point systems, like Niarja, that always have crews sitting around scanning ships obviously on auto-pilot. There is plenty of time to scan and setup an attack as something like a badger meanders towards the gate.

lol that’s actually way more than 22B ISK….
Look at the 2nd, 3rd line of the “items” list
    Vindicator Blueprint x3 …. 0ISK
??? Well, at least according to eve-kill. Personally I kinda doubt that “worth assessment”. ;-) There are a few other items on the list that are either 0-valued or extremely UNDER valued by the KB computation.

Whoever they were, they deserved it. The first rule of space flight (never undock in something you cannot afford to lose) is valid for cargo as well as hulls.

  7. Latrodanes's avatar Latrodanes says:

Frankly, despite having alts with T2 haulers, I always contract-hauled into Jita. Share the wealth…and threat. Just set up your collateral to cover any potential losses.

While AFKers are the simplest targets, a good gank squad will have you passive scanned and “tagged” ahead of time, i.e. a gate or two down the pipe you are travelling. Once you land on the gate at which they’ve selected to strike you, the attack squad does its thing and a neutral scoops the loot.

  8. Aufero's avatar Aufero says:

Holy hell. That cargo may as well have been labeled “Comprehensive list of things never to carry in a Badger near Jita.”

I’ll add a 18bil Golem my alliance mates killed yesterday –

    (crap drop though)
While those are obviously jackpot kills, it is entirely possible to get rich off several suicide-gank scenarios in eve.
You just need to put some effort in.
