Can something be Baldur’s Gate 3, but not be Baldur’s Gate 3, but yea, pretty much be Baldur’s Gate 3?
Video says: Yes, yes it can.

But crowdsourcing…
If I recall correctly, the crowd sourcing was because they couldn’t get any of the standard backers. The consensus amongst the backers was a game like this wouldn’t sell, was ‘dated’, and not worth the risk.
Sometimes, the gamers actually do turn out to tell the stuffed suites to, well, stuff it.It really did not progress like a SC, most that I know that donated (including me) were of the mindset “Here you go, but I swear, if you fail…”.
I yelled “shut up and take my money!” a while back on that one.
It fits the narrow criteria for what I’m willing to back – sequel/followup to game I know and love; experienced and talented veterans of the original on the dev team; crowdfunding sought because the game genre is not “cool” enough for mainstream publishers.
Very much looking forward to this one!
I kicked in enough to get myself a copy of whatever they shipped way back when, then basically stopped paying attention. I viewed it as a pre-order and was happy enough to let them get back to me when they were ready. Starting to look interesting now. Not something I would have sunk $1,000 into, but still interesting.
If you’ll excuse me, I’ll be stuffing my money into a cannon with which to fire it at the developers.
So glad I backed this, this is exactly what I was hoping they’d deliver.
